FCH JU at International transport Forum 2016 - Leipzig

For the first time, the FCH JU took part in the Intentional Transport Forum (ITF) Summit, from 18 to 20 May 2016, in Leipzig.
An overview of the evaluation results for the 2020 Call ("Flash call info") is available here.
A new independent study, commissioned by Clean Sky and Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertakings on hydrogen’s potential for use in aviation was released on 22 June, during an online event.

17 May 2016 - Bart Biebuyck takes up his duties as new executive director of the FCH2 JU.

The Hannover Messe is the world's biggest international trade fair for industrial technology with an estimated attendance of 200,000 participants and 5,000 exhibitors.

The first publicly accessible hydrogen station in Belgium opened on 22nd of April 2016 as part of the FCH2 JU funded project, SWARM. The Air Liquide station opened in the presence of the Flemish Minister and Director of Innovative and Sustainable Mobility at the European Commission, with SWARM partners H20 e-mobile and Microcab Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles on show.

The FCH JU funded project ene.field has achieved a milestone. One of the preliminary results of Europe’s largest fuel cell micro-CHP deployment shows that the idea of a home energy solution providing both heat and power appeals to over three quarters of the households taking part in the ene.field project, as presented at the “Fuel cells for stationary power applications conference“ in London on 9th February.

RET, the public transport company of the metropolitan region of Rotterdam (Netherlands), has signed a contract with the Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool for the supply of two latest generation fuel cell electric buses.
In total RET has a 250 bus fleet of which six are electric buses. The two new fuel cell buses ordered receive co-financing from different entities, among which from the FCH-JU as part of the bus project 3Emotion.

Philippe Vannson was appointed by the FCH 2 JU Governing Board on 18 November 2015 as Acting Executive Director of the FCH 2 JU as from 01 January 2016.
Philippe Vannson graduated in engineering from the “Ecole Centrale de Paris" in 1980 and obtained a DEA (Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies) in Materials Technology.
He then built a broad experience in industry/steelmaking (Dillinger Hütte, in Sollac), research (CEA, GCO Petten), programme management & public administration (Head of unit in DG BUDG, DG RTD).

Since their settlements in 2007-2008, the Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) are driving innovation in key industrial sectors, namely aviation (Clean Sky and SESAR), electronic components & systems (ENIAC and ARTEMIS) and health (IMI), in addition to the FCH JU area. These pioneering partnerships have more than demonstrated their ability to deliver results that are both scientifically excellent and have practical applications in areas that are vital to Europe’s competitiveness.

As the COP21 starts, the FCH JU project CHIC (Clean Hydrogen in European Cities), a flagship zero emission bus project, saves over four million litres of fuel and demonstrates that the fuel cell bus technology is ready to underpin the decarbonisation of our urban centres.
As the post-Kyoto United Nations negotiations begin in Paris, transport emissions cannot be ignored. They account for one quarter of all CO2 emissions in Europe, while urban mobility represents 40% of all CO2 emissions of road transport.

The 2015 edition of the Programme Review Days and the Stakeholder Forum will be broadcast live by web-streaming. The three days conference will be open to online viewers starting from the 17 November at 14.30.
