Fuel cell power plants at the heart of Smart Grids

Since 2015, the project INNO-SOFC supported by the FCH JU, has been working the development and validation of the next generation of solid oxide fuel cell technologies for commercial sized applications. With a power capacity of 58kWe the INNO-SOFC system brings together Estonian fuel cell stack manufacturer ELCOGEN and Finnish fuel cell system integrator CONVION to further decrease system costs and to validate the performance of the system.

Building on the success of the INNO-SOFC project an agreement has been signed between Lempäälän Energia Oy and leading fuel cell system developer Convion for the delivery of two Convion C50 fuel cell systems to Marjamäki district. The delivery is part of project LEMENE, earmarked by the Finnish government as a key project in helping the country achieve its national energy targets for decarbonisation.
