Fourth public hydrogen refuelling station in London thanks to FCH JU and OLEV funding
On 11th October 2016, ITM Power officially opened the fourth public hydrogen refuelling station in Greater London.
The hydrogen is produced on site at the Centre of Engineering Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) in Rainham, East London, through water electrolysis powered by photovoltaic energy.
The station is part of demonstration project HyFIVE and is co-financed by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking and the UK Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
Project HyFIVE demonstrates fuel cell cars in several European areas through early deployment of more than 120 vehicles and 6 hydrogen refuelling stations. Rainham is the second London station opened in London within the project, the first one being operational in Teddington since May this year. A third station is due to open in Cobham. The three other HyFIVE stations are in Innsbruck (Austria), Aarhus and Korsor (Denmark).
Pre-existing hydrogen refuelling stations in London are located in Hatton Cross (near Heathrow) and Hendon.
