FCH JU at Hannover Messe 2018
Hannover Messe, Europe’s largest hydrogen, fuel cells and battery exhibition, is taking place on 23- 27 April 2018 in Hannover, Germany. This year’s edition features 60 exhibitors from 20 countries and an outside Ride + Drive area where visitors can test, among other, the newest models of fuel cell electric vehicles.
Different topics and latest technical developments are discussed in the Public and Technical forum of the exhibition. This year, the FCH JU participated with a dedicated slot entitled FCH JU supporting European SMEs, accelerating technological breakthroughs. Three SME beneficiaries of FCH JU funding- Elcogen, HyET and Hydrogenious, discussed the topic alongside the FCH JU executive director Bart Biebuyck. He underlined that SMEs are the backbone of the FCH sector in Europe, having the invaluable ability to innovate and adapt quickly. 25% of FCH JU funding has been awarded to SMEs, exceeding the Horizon 2020 target of 20%. Mr Biebuyck confirmed that one of the strategic priorities of the Joint Undertaking is ensuring that SMEs play a key role in the development of the sector. The SME representatives on the panel each introduced their unique company and highlighted how the FCH JU support contributes to their success. They also underlined that the FCH JU not only brings benefits in terms of funding, but acting as stakeholder networking platform, it helps to form valuable relationships needed for these companies to flourish and explore new horizons. Traditionally, numerous FCH JU beneficiaries are present at the fair as exhibitors and speakers in the Public and Technical forums throughout the week.
After the podium discussion, the FCH JU hosted a networking cocktail. It was an opportunity for participants of the Hydrogen Fuel Cell exhibit to meet and discuss their ideas and latest developments in the field.
