EUSEW 2021: Clean Steel with Hydrogen

Monday, 18 October, from 15:00 to 16:30

The EU steel industry currently accounts for 221 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, which is 5.7% of total EU emissions. In the last 30 years emissions have been reduced by 26% through energy efficiency improvements and higher recycling rates, however achieving climate-neutrality in the next 30 years requires radical changes in the way steel is produced: a higher level of circular economy and the integration of renewable energy sources directly or indirectly through hydrogen. This panel discussed technical and policy issues related to the decarbonisation of the steel industry through hydrogen.
